Nigerians on Twitter have expressed their displeasure at Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky.

His name is trending among netizens in Nigeria and it is not because Nigerians are sympathising with him as the Russian invasion of Ukraine passes the one-year mark.

However, it is because he congratulated Nigeria’s president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his victory in the recently concluded presidential polls.

Controversial Win For Tinubu

Mr Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared winner of the presidential election held on February 25, 2023.

The election was marred by irregularities that have made many Civil Society Organisations and observers to conclude that the election was not credible.

Opposition Labour Party (LP) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have decided to let the court decide the winner. They taken Tinubu and the country’s electoral umpire to court.

Despite the controversies surrounding Tinubu’s victory, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced him as the president-elect and presented him with a Certificate of Return.

However, the majority of the youths have expressed their displeasure with this act and are hoping the judge would rule in their favour to cancel Tinubu’s win.

Zelensky Congratulates Tinubu

Despite being in the middle of a war that has claimed several lives, Ukraine’s Zelensky still chose to congratulate Tinubu.

The Ukrainian president took to Twitter to send compliments on Thursday, a day after Tinubu was declared the winner by INEC.

“Congratulations to @officialABAT on winning the Nigerian presidential election. I look forward to close cooperation,” he said.

“I’m convinced that UA-NG bilateral interaction will be strengthened. UA is ready to work together to overcome global challenges, including threats to food security!”

However, his post does not seem to have settled well with the young people who have decided to remind him that he has war duties to attend to.
