While joining in protest or perhaps being around protest scenes, many Nigerians have sustained different levels of injuries while many others pay the ultimate price.

People even die while queuing in banking halls to withdraw the new Naira note.

These are some of the negative effects of the Naira redesign policy championed by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

The recent happenings has earned Emefiele numerous description in the minds of Nigerians.

In fact, there are jokes about his name being added in the dictionary to explain something uncomfortable.

Difficult To Feed

Many say the CBN Governor is an enemy of the Nation for putting Nigerians through so much hardship and suffering.

A trader, who gave her name as Mercy, said all the bloods of those who have lost their lives due to this hardship will forever hunt Emefiele.

To her, it has become very difficult for people to feed even with their own money.

A student, who identified himself as Henry Ote said the most annoying part of the crisis is that “politicians are not affected by the hardship and suffering other Nigerians are facing”.

Ote faulted President Buhari for leaving the country some days ago amidst the crisis.

However, in all these confusion, many Nigerians hail Godwin Emefiele as a ‘Messiah’ ready to save the Nation.

A Messiah Saving Nigeria

Many explained that the CBN Governor, through the Naira redesign policy, will combat to a very large extent the level of vote buying during the forthcoming elections.

Others say that the CBN policy will help tackle insecurity in Nigeria.

They claim it will reduce kidnapping and robbery.

Undoubtedly, it will reduce corruption, since transfers are traceable.

On vote buying, Anthony Affia, a student of Political Science Department, University of Calabar, argued that the CBN Naira redesign policy, the ending of the ₦500 and ₦1,000 notes will frustrate plans of vote buying by politicians.

According to Affia, political campaigns are already suffering the effects as politicians can no longer dish out huge amounts of money to electorates.

He said, “this will make Nigerians vote their conscience”.

On the other hand, many Nigerians insist that Nigerian politicians are very corrupt and will always find means to lure voters.

Some Nigerians and politicians like Governor El-Rufai of Kaduna State had publicly alleged that the CBN Naira redesign policy was targeted at destroying the presidential ambition of Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential flag bearer.
