Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State is willing to play the sacrificial lamb with his senatorial ambition for Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
Ortom believes that Obi’s presidential ambition is more important than his senatorial ambition.
“For me, it’s not even that I’m contesting an election.
“Yes, the form was bought for me by the people of Benue State.
“I’ve gone round; they have accepted that they will vote for me,” he said.
He says he is ready to let go of his ambition just to see Obi win in the forthcoming February 25 general elections.
“But if I’m to sacrifice my senatorial ambition for Peter Obi to win, so shall it be,” he said.
Ortom reveals that his backing of Obi is also because Obi is from the South-Eastern part of Nigeria.
“I know that if there is any group of people connected in this world, it is the Igbo.
“This is the opportunity you have to say that an Igbo man from the South-East is president,” Ortom says.
Ortom is Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Benue North-West district at the National Assembly.
Ortom Supports Obi, Ignores Atiku
Rather than support the candidate of his party, Atiku Abubakar, Ortorm has chosen to support the opposition.
In a town hall meeting in Makurdi, Ortom endorsed Obi as his preferred candidate, urging the people of Benue to vote for him.

The governor believes that Obi’s candidacy is an opportunity from God, urging the people to embrace it.
“So, let us not miss this opportunity that God himself is providing.
“The youth have told me; my people have told me—stakeholders here, traditional rulers, party people across party lines.”
He says the matter is not about political parties but about the country in general.
