We Say No To A Lawless Government – ASUU UI Says Amidst Protest

The chairman of the University of Ibadan (UI) branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ayoola Akinwole has described the current government as a lawless one that the union will no longer agree with.

This he said while addressing students and journalists during the protest organized by the body in the university, on Monday.

The body had gone out to protest the payment of half of the salaries by the federal government.

The federal government had decided to implement the ‘no work, no pay’ strategy by paying for only the days that the lecturers worked in October, leading to the protests.

Other universities like the University of Lagos (UNILAG), University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), had previously protested for the same cause.

Akinwole said members of the union would no longer endure poor treatment from the government.

“The present government is one of the most lawless governments Nigeria has ever seen. The government that doesn’t obey its own rule, the government that doesn’t obey its own court, a government that is merciless in meeting out draconian policies on the working class. Our people say no to all these treatments,” The chairman said.
