The Super Bowl halftime show is known for its jaw-dropping moments, but this year’s spectacle had an unexpected twist.
Tennis icon, Serena Williams, took to the stage alongside Kendrick Lamar at the Superdome in New Orleans.
Stepping away from her legendary sporting career, Williams embraced the spotlight in a completely different way.
She dances during Lamar’s electrifying performance, which also featured SZA and Samuel L. Jackson.
What Made Serena Williams Appearance Particularly Striking?
Serena Williams once had a romantic connection with Drake.
Drake is the very artist at the centre of Kendrick Lamar’s ongoing and highly publicised feud.
Kendrick Lamar’s performance featured Not Like Us, a track packed with scathing jabs at Drake.
These includes allegations of hidden children and even more controversial accusations.
The fact that Serena Williams was on stage, moving to the rhythm of a song targeting her ex, made the moment even more surreal.
However, her appearance was more than just a headline-grabbing stunt.
It was also a nod to their shared roots, both Williams and Lamar hail from Compton, California
After her brief but memorable moment in the limelight, Williams took to social media to express her excitement.
Posting a clip of her halftime outfit on X, she wrote: “Let’s go Super Bowl halftime??! I died a little!”
Her reaction was echoed by fans online, with X erupting in astonishment.
One user posted, “Kendrick brought Serena Williams on stage OMGGG!”
While another exclaimed, “Kendrick got Serena Williams dancing while playing They Not Like Us!”
Kendrick Lamar, who has been at the peak of his career’s most mischievous phase, did not hold back throughout his set.

Alongside Not Like Us, he reportedly incorporated lyrics from another Drake diss track, Euphoria, and delivered a high-energy mix of his biggest hits, including All the Stars, Squabble Up, Humble, and DNA.
At one point, it seemed as though Lamar might avoid performing Not Like Us altogether. Teasing the audience, he said:
“Ladies, I wanna make a move. I wanna perform their favourite song. But you know they love to sue.”
However, in the end, he delivered the track.
