Manchester United secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Fulham, thanks to a late deflected strike from Lisandro Martinez.
The match had been a dull affair for over 75 minutes, with both teams struggling to create meaningful chances.
However, Martinez’s intervention in the 78th minute changed the course of the game. His effort from the edge of the box struck Sasa Lukic and looped over Bernd Leno, giving Manchester United their first shot on target and ultimately the win.
Fulham had been the better side in the first half, but failed to capitalize on their chances. Raul Jimenez was guilty of a notable miss, driving a shot over the bar after being picked out by Antonee Robinson.
This was the second time this season that Manchester United had punished Fulham in the closing stages, having also struck late in their 1-0 win at Old Trafford in August.
Manchester United’s victory was nearly undone in the final minutes, but substitute Toby Collyer made a crucial clearance off the line to deny Joachim Andersen’s header.
Amad Diallo thought he had sealed the win with a late goal, but it was ruled out for offside by the video assistant referee.
The win marks back-to-back victories for Ruben Amorim’s side, following their Europa League win over Rangers midweek. Manchester United moved up to 12th in the Premier League, while Fulham remained 10th.
