In recent times, the struggle to survive has become overwhelming for many Nigerians.
Tragic events, like stampedes at food distribution centres and a children’s funfair, show how desperation for basic needs is taking a heavy toll on the people.
As the festive season unfolds, these incidents serve as heartbreaking reminders of how policies and poor planning are affecting lives.
PDP Blames APC Over Stampedes
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of around 39 lives during food distribution events in Anambra State and Abuja.
The party also mourned the death of 35 children at a funfair in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a statement, PDP’s spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba, criticised the current government, blaming its policies for the rising desperation and suffering across Nigeria.
On December 18, 2024, a funfair meant to bring joy to children turned into a nightmare in Ibadan.
At least 35 children lost their lives, and many others were injured during a stampede at the event.
At the same time, stampedes at food distribution points in Anambra and Abuja claimed at least 39 lives, as people scrambled for palliatives.
According to the PDP, these events highlight the growing struggles of Nigerians under the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

“The tragic events in Oyo, Anambra, and Abuja show how much Nigerians are suffering,” said Ologunagba.
He added: “It’s heartbreaking that in a country blessed with so many resources, people are dying just trying to get food”.
Cause Of Hunger
The party criticised the government for neglecting agriculture and food production and making economic decisions that have worsened poverty.
The PDP called on Nigerians to hold the government accountable and demanded justice for the victims’ families.
They also urged an immediate review of policies to reduce the hardship people face.
As investigations into these tragedies continue, the PDP offered condolences to the affected families and called for better planning and management to prevent future disasters.
