Nollywood actress and filmmaker Ruth Kadiri has criticised producers who impose pressure on actors to achieve one million views on the first day of a movie’s release on YouTube.
Kadiri, often referred to as the “Queen of YouTube Nollywood,” advised her colleagues not to succumb to these demands. She stated that the success of a film should not be solely judged by its view count.
Sharing her thoughts on Instagram, Kadiri wrote:
“Dear Nollywood actors, take the pressure off your shoulders! Any producer who requires one million views from you in one day has failed.”
“A good production requires more than your face. One million views is not a standard of success. Don’t let their ignorance rob you of your joy.”
Her remarks highlight the growing debate in Nollywood about the metrics used to measure the success of films released on digital platforms like YouTube.
