The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has approved a new minimum wage of ₦70,000, in line with the Federal Government’s announcement.

This information comes from a statement released by the state government on Saturday evening.

Implementing Minimum Wage

The statement, signed by Honourable Commissioner for Finance Dr. Hauwa Nuru, confirms that the new minimum wage would be implemented immediately across the Kwara State public service, starting in October 2024.

This decision follows a successful tripartite meeting involving government representatives, the leadership of the Organised Labour in Kwara State.

This meeting includes the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), as well as representatives from the organized private sector.

Notably, the agreement includes consequential adjustments to relevant salary structures.

Furthermore, Dr. Nuru, co-chair of the minimum wage committee, expressed gratitude to Governor AbdulRazaq for granting the committee full autonomy to reach a consensus that benefits all parties.

In addition, she emphasised that the immediate implementation of this new wage reflected Governor AbdulRazaq’s proactive and worker-friendly approach.

Dr. Nuru added that the Governor remained committed to the welfare of public servants and all citizens of Kwara State as part of a broader vision for sustainable development and economic stability.

Moreover, the new wage also extends to workers in the 16 local government areas of the state.

According to the Commissioner, Governor AbdulRazaq’s administration prioritises the well-being of its workforce and the general populace, thereby demonstrating its dedication to fostering growth and prosperity for all in Kwara State.

Additionally, Dr. Nuru commended the Governor’s leadership and foresight, stating that this new wage policy is a timely measure to alleviate the effects of current economic challenges sustainably.

Also, she praised the collaborative spirit between the government and labour unions that made this achievement possible.
