The move comes following the departure of Enzo Maresca, who left Stamford Bridge on January 1.

Liam Rosenior is poised to leave Strasbourg, Chelsea’s sister club under BlueCo ownership, as preparations begin to secure his replacement.

French side Strasbourg are already working on contingency plans, with former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Gary O’Neill among three candidates being considered to take over.

In the interim, Chelsea have been under the guidance of Under-21 head coach Calum McFarlane.

He took charge for the Blues’ trip to the Etihad Stadium, where Chelsea earned a 1-1 draw against Manchester City thanks to a late equaliser from Enzo Fernandez.

Speaking after the match, McFarlane revealed he was informed he would oversee the City game, with the possibility of a new manager arriving shortly after.

Rosenior enjoyed a 16-year playing career featuring spells at Bristol City, Fulham, Reading, Hull City and Brighton before retiring in 2018.

As a coach, he narrowly missed out on guiding Hull City to the Championship play-offs in 2024 before taking charge at Strasbourg, where he led the club to a seventh-place finish in Ligue 1 last season.
