Super Eagles captain Victor Osimhen has sent a strong warning to Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) rivals, insisting the team has what it takes to overpower any opponent in their quest for a first continental title in 13 years.

Nigeria wrapped up a flawless group-stage campaign with a convincing 3–1 win over Uganda, despite naming a largely second-string squad.
The victory sealed three wins from three matches, marking only the fourth time in AFCON history that the Super Eagles have achieved a perfect group-stage run.
Wins against Tunisia, Tanzania and Uganda have further strengthened Nigeria’s reputation as one of the most dangerous teams in the tournament, according to the Galatasaray striker.
Speaking after the match, Victor Osimhen confidently placed Nigeria among the favourites to lift the trophy.
“Yes, I would count my country as one of the favourites,” he said.
“We are one of the most feared teams in this tournament.”
“Any team can come and play us. If they are good, they can scale through, but if they are not, we can trample on any team because this team has the quality to do damage to any opponent.”
The Super Eagles will now face Mozambique in the Round of 16 on Monday, January 5, 2026, as the competition moves into the knockout phase.
Despite his bold comments, Osimhen also emphasised the need for respect, discipline and focus going forward.
“We respect every team that progresses to the next round,” he added.
“The Round of 16 will be tougher than the group stage, so the boys are ready to give everything. We respect any team we meet, but we are not scared of anybody.”
