Lionel Messi has enhanced his record as the most decorated player of all-time, with Inter Miami’s Supporters’ Shield triumph earning him trophy No.46.
Argentine superstar Messi rewrote the history books when inspiring the Herons to Leagues Cup glory shortly after his arrival in Florida during the summer of 2023.
That was the 44th success of his remarkable career, and he has gone on to help his country to another Copa America crown.
Messi was injured in the final of that competition, forcing him to spend several weeks on the sidelines, but has returned to fitness in time to lead more quests for silverware at Chase Stadium.
The first of those challenges has been completed, with the Supporters’ Shield being secured in 2024.
Said prize is awarded to the team with the best regular season record in MLS across any given campaign, with Inter Miami wrapping up that standing with a 3-2 victory at the Columbus Crew – with Messi bagging a brace in that contest.
Wild scenes of celebration were sparked in the dressing room afterwards.
