MURIC Calls for Ban on Movie Featuring Nancy Isime In Niqab

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called on the National Film and Video Censors Board  to  “investigate and place an immediate ban” on a upcoming movie featuring actress Nancy Isime.

In the film, Isime is depicted wearing an Islamic full covering, known as the niqab, while brandishing dangerous weapons.

MURIC expressed concerns that the portrayal could potentially “depict Muslim women as criminals and incite public sentiment against them,”

Also, the group described the movie as “satanic.”

In his statement, Professor Akintola said: “An extremely anti-Muslim film has been released into the Nigerian movie industry.

The upcoming film, recently unveiled by Nancy Isime, shows women in purdah brandishing dangerous weapons and robbing banks.

Furthermore, he said the movie is Islamophobia.

“This film is satanic, repugnant, and provocative,” he said.

Akintola elaborated that the movie aims to paint Muslim women as inherently violent criminals.

Also, He warned that the film could expose Muslims to public ridicule and further stigmatization.

“We believe that the film is the handiwork of those who harbor ill feelings towards Muslims, and part of an ongoing plot to discourage Muslim women from wearing hijab and niqab.”

This agenda has been in motion for a while, beginning in schools, where it faced legal challenges.

MURIC’s stance reflects broader concerns about the portrayal of religious and cultural identities in media.
