The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has reportedly suspended Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, the Senior Pastor of the City of David parish in Victoria Island, Lagos State.
The suspension is said to be linked to the public outcry following the lavish birthday party of his wife, Siji Iluyomade.
Siji’s 60th birthday celebration, held on February 18, 2024, drew attention, especially as it followed the recent death of former Access Bank CEO, Herbert Wigwe, a prominent church member.
A video from the party showed the presence of popular Nigerian singer Flavour N’abania, performing his hit songs.
This sparked criticism from some social media users, questioning why a secular singer was at a pastor’s party.
Reports indicate that the RCCG’s Governing Council, after examining the situation, suspended Pastor Iluyomade for three months.
Pastor Charles Kpandei from RCCG Resurrection Parish of Region 11 has reportedly taken over Iluyomade’s duties.
A church insider revealed that there was a need to investigate complaints against Iluyomade and the church, leading to the decision to suspend him.
They clarified that Pastor Enoch Adeboye did not make the suspension decision; it was the governing council’s call.
