Again, the Nigeria Police barrack is making the news and this time not for something good. Everyone in the Warri Area Command of the Nigeria Police in Delta State was shocked when Destiny took the life of a fellow resident in the barrack.
The incident triggered unforeseen tension in the barrack at a time people are still trying to unravel what lead to the death of a young musician, Mohbad.
Destiny Ogbantu is the son of a serving Inspector, but everyone is wondering why he had to kill stab a fellow resident, Onyebuchi Emeka, to death.
Destiny, a student at Madonna University, lost his temper during a misunderstanding.
It all began on Friday evening, September 22, 2023.
That was the day Destiny stabbed Emeka to death near their Block D, Warri Barracks apartments.
The Chase
Witnesses said in the heat of an altercation, Destiny suddenly rushed to his father’s apartment.
He picked a knife and a dagger, and chased Onyebuchi for a few moments across other blocks to the east end of the barracks till he fell into a gutter.
The Inspector’s son repeatedly stabbed Onyebuchi in the back and deep into his chest in the presence of other residents and his mother.
The victim was consequently rushed to a nearby private hospital by family members.
But it was too late, he was pronounced dead shortly after admission, having lost too much blood due to the deep cuts.
The Abscondment
One of the eyewitnesses said: “All this was witnessed by residents of the barracks, including the mother of the alleged killer and his siblings”.
The suspect’s mother knew the gravity of her son’s action.

So, she immediately packed her children, including the suspect and absconded from the barrack.
Their whereabouts are still unknown.
The suspect’s father, Inspector Ogbantu, is currently chilling in police custody. He was arrested as a proxy for his son’s action.
Justice Must Prevail
The Delta State chapter of the Nigerian Civil Rights Council has confirmed the incident.
The body urged the Nigeria Police Force not to sweep the case under the carpet.
A unit Coordinator of the group, Comrade Ojumude Bishop, led a protest with some members.
They demanded that justice should prevail for the slain young man.
They equally demanded that the father of the suspect should be compelled to make available his son.
He has to face the law without trying to arm-twist facts, they insisted.
