Kogi Governorship Election: Barewa College Backs SDP Candidate

“The school made an error of omission because the initial inquiry was designed to verify the WAEC Certificate.

As the fight for Kogi State Governorship election heats up, the Muri Ajaka Campaign Organization has denied suspicions about Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka’s academic records.

Faruk Adejoh-Audu, the organization’s spokesman, issued the promise in a statement.

This comes after the management of Barewa College, Zaria, Kaduna State, confirmed that Ajaka was a student there in the 1990s.

Adejoh-Audu clarified that he was referring to a previous letter that the school was said to have issued in response to an attempt to verify the SDP candidate’s background at the institution.

Mallam Alhassan Isyaku, the Principal, apologized for the unfortunate mix-up.

Error Of Omission

The letter, issued to Chief Gabriel Aduku, Chairman of the Kogi East Elders Forum, stated that the preceding response was an error of omission.

The letter reads in part, “Following further investigation of our archived records, I confirm that Muritala Yakubu with registration number 14667 attended the college from 1996 to 1998.

“However, he did not sit for WAEC in 1998 in college, hence his name was not included in the 1998 WAEC Gazette.

“I apologize for the error, and we are available for further clarification,” says the letter.

“As a result, the Alhaji Muritala Yakubu Ajaka Campaign Organization told all of her adoring followers that there is no cause for concern.

“The school made an error of omission because the initial inquiry was designed to verify the WAEC Certificate.

Waec Certificate Not Issued

“Although the WAEC certificate was presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Alhaji Ajaka never said that it was issued by the school.

“Rather, it was an external GCE Certificate issued directly by the Examination Council to the candidate.

“As a result, the public has been urged to disregard the campaign of slander waged by desperate individuals based on earlier erroneous communications.”
