Have you been looking for physical cash to meet your daily petty purchases? The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is no longer in that situation.
They have enough cash.
In three days, Nigeria’s 2023 general elections will hold.
Settle Service Providers
To ensure the proper process, as regards organising the election, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has released cash to INEC.
The undisclosed amount of cash was released to INEC on Tuesday, so as to settle service providers who have refused to be paid via transfer.
This was done in a bid to help INEC solidify plans towards conducting a hitch free national and state elections on February 25 and March 11 respectively.
It was learnt that the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, had assured the INEC boss, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, that cash will not be a constraint to the successful conduct of the elections.
He gave the assurances when the INEC boss called on the CBN governor pleading that “service providers, especially transporters, are required to be paid in cash.
“Besides, experience has shown that emergency situations do arise on election day, which could demand the use of cash by the Commission”.
It was in response to this plea the source said, that the CBN released the undisclosed amount of cash to the Commission.
