Nearly 2,000 persons have reportedly been evacuated from their homes as Mount Semeru volcano erupts in Indonesia.
The volcano eruption sent ash billowing into the sky causing many to be evacuated from Java Island.
Authorities had raised the warning status of the volcano to its highest level, meaning that its activities had escalated.
Although no injuries or deaths have been reported, nearly 2,000 persons were reportedly evacuated as they were urged to stay at least 5 miles away from the volcano.
The Indonesia Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) said the volcano currently poses a threat to people’s homes.
The PVMBG also said a bridge being built after a previous eruption has been destroyed by the current one.
A series of earthquakes have preceded this eruption on the west of Java island, including one that killed over 300 persons, last month.
