Most of Nigeria’s foods come from the northern part of Nigeria and that means so much to people in the south-west and other states. But there could be an upsetting rise in food price in the first few months of 2025.
One of the basic things that farmers need to record high yield in farm produce is rain.
Now, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has shared with Nigerians their findings and predictions on the amount of rain that Nigerians will experience today.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, presented the findings at a meeting in Abuja.
Dalay In Onset Of Rain
This is in a presentation of the annual climate prediction for the year 2025.
According to Mr Keyamo, there will be delay in the onset of rain over the northern and central states.
The states that would be affected are Plateau as well as parts of Kaduna, Niger, Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, Adamawa, and Kwara.
This could result in poor yield of food items and force a rise in food price.
Meanwhile, on the flip side, there will be early onset in the southern states of Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Anambra, and sections of Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Enugu, Imo, and Ebonyi.
Furthermore, the rest of Nigeria will have a normal onset, according to the predictions.
Also, earlier than long-term average end-of-rainy season is predicted over parts of Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Plateau and Bauchi. Other states affected are Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Niger, Kwara, Kogi, FCT, Ekiti, and Ondo states.
A delayed end of the season could happen over parts of Kaduna, Nasarawa, Benue, Lagos, Kwara, Taraba, Oyo, Ogun, Cross River and Delta. Others are Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Anambra, and Enugu states.
Furthermore, temperatures are expected to be generally above the long-term average across Nigeria.

Both daytime and night-time temperatures are predicted to be warmer than the long-term average over most parts of Nigeria January, February, March, and May.
Meanwhile, in April, day and night-time temperatures are predicted to be generally cooler than normal.
But it will be warmer than normal temperatures in most of the northern states.
Also, Keyamo advised persons engaged in rain-fed agriculture and other rainfall dependant activities to refer to the predicted onset dates. This is in the Seasonal Climate Change document.
