In a tragic turn of events early on Wednesday morning, the residence of Kano State’s Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Kofar-Mata, became the scene of a devastating fire that claimed lives.
The fire outbreak claimed the lives of three of his family members who were asleep at the time of the fire outbreak.
Fortunately, Dr. Kofar-Mata narrowly escaped the incident, but his daughter Maimuna, elder sister Khadija, and a close relative named Juwairiyya perished in the fire.
The extent of damage included the loss of several valuables, although an official assessment has yet to be released.
When contacted, the State Fire Service spokesperson, Abdullahi Saminu, confirmed the incident.

He said the level of damage and cause of the outbreak could not be ascertained immediately.
Kano Fire Outbreak Tragedy
In a short notice posted on his verified social media handle, the commissioner expressed deep grief, saying: Unto Allah, we came and to him we shall return”.
He said: “I mourn the loss of my daughter Maimuna (Islam), my senior sister, Hajiya Khadija, and my brother’s wife, Juwairiyya, who all perished in the fire accident this morning.
“Their funeral prayers had been conducted at 11 a.m at Kofar-Mata quarters, Kano City today.”
