Ivan Toney could be set to miss out on a big-money summer move away from Brentford following Igor Thiago’s injury during a friendly.
Toney has been linked with a big-money move away from Brentford for the last 18 months and it seemed certain that the England international would get that move away especially after the Bees signed Thiago from Club Brugge for a club-record fee of £31 million ($39.8m).
However, the Brazilian striker has now suffered an injury that may affect Toney’s transfer plans.
During Brentford’s first pre-season friendly of the season, Thiago scored twice during the Bees’ 5-2 win over AFC Wimbledon.
However, the 23-year-old’s debut was marred by a knee injury late in the game, Brentford have since confirmed that he suffered an injury to his meniscus and will likely be unavailable for the rest of the pre-season.
As per The Athletic, Thiago’s injury may deter Brentford’s acceptance towards Toney’s potential departure as the expected return from meniscus injuries may rule him out for the first few games of the Premier League season.
