Tiwa Savage, recently reflected on her early days in the music industry in an interview with BET.
She recalled how she was not allowed to perform at shows due to her revealing outfits and how some of her early music videos were not aired on TV due to their indecent content.
She said, “When I first came back, I would show up at a concert and they would say I couldn’t perform because my outfit was too sexy. It was a cultural issue.”
“Even some of my first music videos weren’t played on TV because they were considered too racy.”
“I wasn’t even wearing bikinis! But I was stubborn and kept pushing boundaries. My dresses got more revealing, and it was getting worse. People were criticizing me online.”
“But it was funny because women were secretly admiring me and my style. They couldn’t deny it. My fan base was growing, and people wanted to see me perform. So, they had to put me on shows and play my music.”
