Tinubu Hosts First Council of State Meeting with Jonathan, Buhari & Governors

President Bola Tinubu held his first Council of State meeting, with former Nigerian Presidents, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammad Buhari in attendance at the State House Council Chambers, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Tinubu and former presidents Former Heads of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) and General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), participated virtually.

In addition, governors from Abia, Adamawa, and Akwa Ibom States were present.

The Council of State, chaired by the President and Vice President, comprises all living former Heads of State and Presidents, former and current Chief Justices of Nigeria, the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, all state governors, and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF).

This body provides advisory support to the executive on policy matters.

The last Council of State meeting, held on February 10, 2023, during the administration of former President Buhari, focused on the 2023 elections, the new Naira policy, and fuel scarcity.
