Diplomats and nationals from the UK, US, France, and China are to be evacuated from Sudan by air.
On April 15, 2023, a fierce battle broke out in Khartoum the capital city of Sudan.
The battle broke out between the Sudanese Arny leader, General Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) leader, Mohamed Hamdan “Hemedti” Dagalo.
Both parties argued over how Sudan should be run.
They both hold top positions in Sudan’s current military government, formed after the 2019 coup that ousted long-time leader Omar al-Bashir.
The two generals were reportedly supposed to merge their forces but the RSF resisted this change.
As a result, both parties began attacking each other killing over 400 people and injuring thousands of others.
Also, the death toll is believed to be much higher, as people struggle to reach hospitals.
Evacuation
Diplomats and nationals from the UK, US, France, and China are to be evacuated from Sudan by air, as fighting there continues, the Sudanese army says.
Army chief Burhan has agreed to facilitate and secure their evacuation “in the coming hours”.
Also, the UK government says it is preparing for “a number of contingencies”.

Previous plans to evacuate foreign nationals have not been implemented because of safety fears.
The Nigerian government recently said it could not evacuate its citizens due to safety concerns.
According to the army, British, US, French, and Chinese nationals and diplomats would be evacuated by air on board military transport planes from Khartoum.
The UK government says it is “doing everything possible to support British nationals and diplomatic staff in Khartoum”.
Also, it said its defence ministry is working with the foreign office to prepare several provisions.
