On Wednesday, stakeholders in the technology ecosystem gathered in Abuja, urging the Federal Government to leverage emerging technologies for harmonising revenue collection systems to enhance national development.
This appeal was made during the two-day Technology Ecosystem Dialogue (TED) Summit, organised by the Young Innovators of Nigeria (YIN) to mark its 10th anniversary with the theme “Securing Nigeria’s Revenue Streams: The Power of Technology.”
Vincent Olatunji, National Commissioner of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), raised concerns about data privacy in technology-driven revenue generation.
He highlighted the need for “privacy by design and default” to ensure data protection, stating, “We must provide technology that people can understand in their own language, enabling them to protect themselves.”

In addition, Kate Simlek, CEO of the Stalwart Group, emphasised that technologies like Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things could facilitate grassroots revenue collection.
Meanwhile, Adesola Akinsanya, President of the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA), urged the country to capitalise on technological opportunities to enhance revenue streams.
Ultimately, these voices at the TED Summit underscored the crucial role of technology in transforming Nigeria’s revenue collection and advancing economic development.
