Senegal beat Ecuador 2-1 to become the first African nation to qualify for the round of 16 at a FIFA World Cup since 2014 on Tuesday.
Senegal fought off a stiff challenge from Ecuador to make it into the Round of 16 with a 2-1 win at the Khalifa International stadium on Tuesday.

Senegal took the lead after Ismaila Sarr converted a penalty kick in the 44th minute, but Ecuador tied the score in the 67th. Three minutes later, Kalidou Koulibaly’s header restored Senegal’s lead, which it was able to maintain until the final whistle.
At the World Cup African champion Senegal finished second in Group A behind Netherlands with two wins and a loss. Senegal will face against the winner of Group B in the round of 16 match.
