Jungle justice is a monster, and it consumes the individual upon whom it is called. That was the fate of a 22-year-old man, identified as Hakeem Mujib. He is a Lagos tailor. 

His crime was unheard of and the story around his death appears disconnected.

You used to hear that jungle justice is called when an individual is caught in the act, but this one is skeptical and barbaric.

When death comes, sometimes it twists the hands of the innocent and sweep their feet off.

Hakeem was beaten to death by residents in Lagos Island on suspicion of being a spy to armed robbers.

The victim had gone to drop some clothes to a nearby tailor and stopped at his colleague’s residence around 2:00 a.m. to pass the night.

Mujib was knocking at the gate of his friend’s compound when occupants of the building accused him of being a spy.

Sadly, his night was spent in pains until life left.

According to them, the person he mentioned as his friend does not live in the building.

The residents then descended on Mujib beating him to death. They claimed that he could be a spy to armed robbers.

Apprentice On An Errand

A source confirmed that the victim’s appeal to his assailants that he was an apprentice on an errand for his boss fell on deaf ears, as they beat him with dangerous weapons till he died.

Also, residents from adjoining buildings, who heard the deceased, reportedly rushed to his rescue, but his assailants prevented them from gaining entrance.

His lifeless body was dumped at the gate of the building, while perpetrators of the act took to their heels before members of the Community Development Association (CDA) could get there.

Someone, a good Nigerian, reported the matter to a police station nearby.

Afterwards, operatives of the state police command came to the scene and evacuated the body.

It has been deposited in the mortuary.

Now, his family and loved ones have been thrown into mourning.

Say no to jungle justice. Hold the suspect, contact the police and give the court a chance.
