American singer Sean Kingston has been extradited to Florida, facing charges alongside his mother for allegedly committing fraud exceeding a million dollars.
Kingston, whose legal name is Kisean Anderson, was apprehended on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Fort Irwin, a military training facility in California’s Mojave Desert, where he was performing.
He was subsequently booked into Broward County jail on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
Last week, he waived his extradition rights during a court appearance in California, consenting to return to Florida to address the charges.
Accompanied by a SWAT team, authorities raided Kingston’s rented mansion in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where they arrested both Kingston and his mother, 61-year-old Janice Turner, on the same day.
The charges against them include organized fraud, grand theft, identity theft, and related offenses, according to arrest warrants released by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
Allegedly, they pilfered money, jewelry, a Cadillac Escalade, and furniture over a span from October to March.
During a court hearing, Kingston was granted a bond of $100,000, with $10,000 assigned to each of the ten charges he faces.
Additionally, he was ordered to surrender his passport, refrain from firearm possession, and have no contact with his mother.
Robert Rosenblatt, Kingston and Turner’s attorney, expressed their readiness to address the charges in court, expressing confidence in a positive outcome.
This isn’t Kingston’s first legal entanglement; he was already serving a two-year probation sentence for trafficking stolen property.
His mother has a prior conviction for bank fraud in 2006, serving nearly 1.5 years in prison for stealing over $160,000, according to federal court records.
