Real Reason Speed Darlington Sued IGP

A few days after singer Speed Darlington regained his freedom in a bail, he dragged the Nigeria Police Force to court.

When the case was called on Monday, Justice Musa Liman adjourned it to March 19, 2025, to allow parties to adopt their processes.

Court Adjourns Speed Darlington’s Suit Against IGP

The decision came after counsel for the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), CSP Audu Garba, informed the court of a newly filed counter-affidavit in response to Speed Darlington’s further affidavit.

Also, Rosemary Hamza, representing the singer, stated that she had not yet been served the document.

This prompted the court to grant the adjournment.

The suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1832/2024, names the IGP as the sole respondent.

Basically, in the ₦300-million fundamental rights enforcement suit, Speed Darlington alleges that his arrest and detention violated his fundamental rights as guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution.

According to an affidavit deposed by Esther Eyisi, a secretary at Adeyanju’s law firm, Speed Darlington was first arrested on October 4, 2024.

The arrest was for allegedly defaming a fellow musician, Burna Boy.

Also, the affidavit claims that the singer was detained for five days under inhumane conditions without being formally charged.

He was later granted bail.

Also, Eyisi stated that Speed Darlington was rearrested on November 27, 2024, for allegedly jumping administrative bail.
