Alejandro Garnacho saw a breakaway effort ruled out for offside following a VAR review.

But there was a late twist in the tale as Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus wrapped up a 3-1 win for the hosts in stoppage time.

Hojlund got his first taste of Premier League football off the bench in that contest, with Erik ten Hag sending him on with 23 minutes remaining.

The 20-year-old was unable to make a decisive contribution, as he shakes off the rust of a recent injury, but he thoroughly enjoyed making his bow.
