The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it published the voters’ register on its website, to allow Nigerians to pick out ineligible and underaged voters.
Ahead of the 2023 elections, the commission published the voters register online, in a bid to improve the electoral process.
In the register, many registered voters, appear younger than the age stated and others have registered names that seem to be fake.
Nigerians have visited the website and proceeded to report these ineligible voters while taking to social media to share images of these persons.
In response to this, INEC released a statement saying this act is helping the commission to improve transparency and urged Nigerians to continue to report these persons on the website.

The statement partly reads, “It is therefore in the foregoing context that recent media reports on the presence of ineligible registrants in the register should be seen. The full display of all registrants speaks to the Commission’s commitment to transparency. The fact that these likely ineligible registrants are being identified means that the objectives of the display for claims and objections are being met. We implore the public to follow the procedures and report these objections for the necessary action of the Commission. In addition, the Commission cannot rule out infractions by it’s registration officials in allowing these ineligible persons into the register in the first place. Therefore, each confirmed case of infraction will be thoroughly investigated and culpable officials will be disciplined.”
The commission reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability in all its activities ahead of the general elections.
