The Nigeria police Force finally reacts to a viral video capturing the moment Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola popularly known as Portable, resisted arrest by its officers.
The force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, says the conduct is unruly and punishable under law.
In the viral video, some police officers stormed the singer’s bar to arrest him.
The incident occurred on Tuesday and has stirred numerous reactions online.
The Arrest
Portable claims that internet fraudsters ‘Yahoo-yahoo boys’ brought the officers to the club to arrest him.
The officers say they received a petition against Portable and were there to arrest him.
Confirming the arrest, the Ogun state police command says several invitations were sent to Portable but he ignored them.
Hence, the decision of the police to invade his bar and effect his arrest.
In a statement on Wednesday, March 29, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, condemns Portable’s conduct.
Necessary Steps
Adejobi says the police will take all necessary steps to investigate his actions.
According to him, the force will ensure he is prosecuted for any criminal activity he may have committed.
The statement read: “The Nigeria Police Force has condemned the actions of one Habeeb Okikiola popularly known by his stage name Portable, in a viral video, where he was seen exhibiting irrational behaviour and hurling insults at Police Officers carrying out their legal duty.
Such action is criminal and punishable by the criminal laws of Nigeria.
“The action of the singer in the video was unruly and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and incitement of violence against the officers who were detailed to execute a warrant of arrest on him for series of allegations of criminal acts leveled against Mr Portable.

“The NPF will take all necessary steps to investigate his actions and ensure that he is prosecuted for any criminal activity he may have committed depending on the severity of the offense.

“The Police will not condone any unruly act, assault or attack on its officers who are on lawful duty.
