The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed that the Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, is still undertaking the one-year mandatory youth service scheme.
NYSC said this while reacting to a claim by a civil society organisation, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA)
The group had claimed that Musawa was a serving corps member and also a minister.
HURIWA also claimed that the culture minister’s place of primary assignment is a law firm in Abuja.
According to the group, Musawa has failed to show up for duty for a while.
Serving Corps Member
In a chat with TheCable on Thursday, the NYSC Spokesman, Eddy Megwa, confirmed that the minister was a serving corps member.
“Yes; she is a serving corps member,” Megwa said in a message.
President Bola Tinubu, on Monday swore in Musawa and 44 other ministers as members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
NYSC Act
According to the NYSC Act, people who are 30 years and above are exempted from the mandatory one-year scheme.
Others who are excluded are those who have served in the armed forces of the federation or the Nigeria police force for a period of more than nine months.

Also excluded are staff of the Nigerian security organisation, the State Security Service, the National Intelligence Agency, the Defence Intelligence Service.
Others are people who have been conferred with any national honour.
