Such claims can create panic and undermine trust in the institution, sending shockwaves through both its customer base and the public.

But in the world of social media, where viral videos can also spread misinformation at the speed of light, it’s crucial to separate fact from fiction.

Missing Money In Access Account

The latest controversy surrounds Access Bank, which recently found itself involved in a claim made by social media influencer, Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan.

In a video that quickly gained reaction, Otse accused Access bank of sharp practices, alleging that a deceased customer’s ₦500m had gone missing from their account.

But is the story true, or is this another case of a rumour gone viral?

Access Bank wasted no time in addressing the issue, quickly issuing a statement to clear its name and assure the public that the claims were baseless.

Access Bank Addressed Allegations

“Our attention has been drawn to a video on social media wherein allegations of missing funds and unethical behaviour have been made against Access Bank Plc,” the bank said.

“First and foremost, we wish to emphasise that the safety and security of our customers’ funds are core priorities that we take seriously.

“Second, Access Bank Plc does not engage in or condone any unethical behaviour.

“In the instant case, the allegations of missing funds in the bank are most untrue and baseless.”

The bank went on to categorically deny any wrongdoing, stating: “There is no ₦500m or any other fund or amount missing from the subject customer’s account or any other customer’s account with us.”

According to the statement, Access Bank and independent stakeholders within the banking industry had thoroughly investigated the allegations, all of which led to the same conclusion: no funds were missing.

The bank reassured its customers that it operates with the highest ethical standards and is committed to safeguarding their interests.

Access Bank also urged the public not to believe unverified claims, emphasising the importance of checking facts before jumping to conclusions.
