Nelly’s attorney Scott Rosenblum has said the rapper was a victim of “overzealous” policing following his arrest for possession of ecstasy and driving without insurance.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night, August 6, 2024, at a Missouri casino, where Nelly, had won a substantial amount of money.
When he attempted to cash in his winnings, a police officer intervened, stating that a background check was required.
This check revealed an outstanding warrant from a 2018 traffic stop in Maryland, where Nelly was cited for driving without proof of insurance.
According to Nelly’s attorney, the rapper was then handcuffed in the middle of the casino and escorted out in full view of the public.
Nelly’s attorney Scott Rosenblum further alleges that the officer conducted a search without probable cause, resulting in the discovery of four ecstasy pills.
“I am 100 percent confident this case will go nowhere. And we will be asking for an inquiry into this officer’s conduct,” the lawyer said.
