In Abuja, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) announced it will unveil a simplified tariff plan on December 13, 2024, after postponing the initial October date.
The plan limits operators to seven tariff options, aiming to reduce complexity, protect consumers, and promote fair competition.
The commission made the announcement on Thursday.
The commission revised the original launch date, previously set for October 27, to allow stakeholders to finalise the process.
According to Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, who made the announcement through the Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, the new tariff plan aims to simplify tariff structures and improve transparency for telecom consumers.

Under the new directive, the NCC has limited operators to offering a maximum of seven tariff and promotional plans.
Maida said: “This measure will reduce the burden on telecom users, clear up misconceptions around data and airtime usage, and ensure fairness”.
In Addition, the NCC has also launched public awareness campaigns to inform consumers about these changes.
Meanwhile, the commission is also addressing consumer complaints about data depletion.
Maida explained that data usage varies across Android devices and revealed that the NCC has directed operators to engage reputable audit firms to investigate and address these concerns.
By limiting tariff options and increasing transparency, the NCC seeks to protect consumers’ interests and promote fair competition among telecom operators.
As the December 13 launch date approaches, the NCC is confident that these changes will simplify choices for consumers and create a fairer, more transparent telecommunications industry in Nigeria.
Thus, consumers can expect a more straightforward and equitable telecom experience in the near future.
