Nigeria In Darkness As National Grid Collapses Again

For the second time this year, some parts of Nigeria have been thrown into darkness following yet another national grid collapse on Wednesday.

According to data retrieved from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org), the power outage was recorded at approximately 11:30 am.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has yet to disclose the cause of this latest grid failure.

Confirming the incident, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) issued a statement acknowledging the disruption.

We regret to inform you that a system disturbance occurred on the national grid at 11:34 am today (Wednesday), resulting in a power outage across our franchise areas. While efforts towards a gradual restoration of electricity have commenced, please be assured that we are working closely with relevant stakeholders to fully restore power once the grid stabilises,” AEDC wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Additionally, a well-known Nigeria National Grid account on X also confirmed the occurrence, stating:

There was a GRID DISTURBANCE before noon today (Wednesday). Parts of the country experienced an outage”.

As Nigerians grapple with yet another nationwide blackout, concerns continue to mount over the stability and reliability of the country’s electricity supply.
