In the vast expanse of the Lake Chad Basin, hidden among dense vegetation are terrorists who have long used strategic neighbourhoods to launch attacks and store vital supplies.
But the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) recently struck a decisive blow, targeting one of these crucial sites.
The operation, carried out on 23 November, resulted in the destruction of a major food depot used by terrorists and the neutralisation of several insurgents, disrupting their logistical operations.
The airstrikes, executed by NAF fighter jets, were not just a reaction to recent assaults on troops but part of an ongoing meticulous effort to weaken terrorist networks in the region.

The target, located in the Tumbuns area of the Lake Chad Basin, had been identified through days of intelligence-gathering, which linked it to attacks, including one on troops in Kareto earlier this month.
In a statement issued on Monday, the spokesman for the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, confirmed that the operation had been a success.

The NAF aircraft, armed with intelligence gathered from extensive surveillance missions, destroyed storage facilities and eliminated several terrorists at the site.

“Mop-up operations using cannons ensured the complete elimination of fleeing hostile elements,” Akinboyewa said, highlighting the thoroughness of the mission.
This strategic success, he added, severely disrupted the terrorists’ ability to operate, weakening their capacity to launch future attacks.
“The destruction of the terrorist enclave, including food storage facilities, has significantly diminished their logistical capabilities,” he noted.
The operation also demonstrated the NAF’s steadfast commitment to defending Nigeria’s sovereignty, with Akinboyewa emphasising that the Nigerian Air Force will continue to conduct robust operations in support of both independent and joint counterterrorism efforts.
