Some Nigerians are experiencing network issues due to the fact that MTN has barred some lines that are not registered or linked with the National Identification Number (NIN).
The telecom giant began barring these numbers on Sunday, July 28, 2024.
When your line is barred by MTN, several things happen:
1. No Calls or Texts
You will not be able to make or receive phone calls or send and receive text messages. This can be particularly disruptive for those who use their phones for daily communication or business purposes.
2. No Internet Access
Your mobile data services will be disconnected, meaning you won’t be able to browse the internet, use social media, or access any online services via your mobile network.
3. Emergency Services
In some cases, you might still be able to make emergency calls, but this depends on the specific regulations and capabilities of the network.
4. Notification from MTN
You will likely receive a notification from MTN informing you that your line has been barred and providing instructions on how to resolve the issue.
To unbar your line and restore full service, you will need to complete the following steps:
1. Register Your SIM
Visit an MTN store or use their online platforms to register your SIM card if it hasn’t been registered already.
2. Link to NIN
Ensure that your SIM card is linked to your National Identification Number (NIN). This can often be done through MTN’s online services, customer service, or by visiting an MTN store.
3. Confirmation
Once your SIM is registered and linked to your NIN, MTN will confirm the update and restore your services.
