The burial ceremony of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has officially kicked off at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja.
This one-of-a-kind ceremony which started at exactly 3:00 p.m. on Friday, is in accordance with military traditions.
Lagbaja’s remains was transported in an ambulance and was received with solemnity and respect.
As we speak, the pallbearers are set to prepare the casket, followed by a minute of silence to honour the late army chief.
Presidential Tribute
In line with protocol, remarks will be delivered by the Chief of Defence Staff, the Minister of Defence.

Also, President Bola Tinubu will pay tribute to Lagbaja’s service and dedication to the nation.
Meanwhile, the ceremony will also feature the presentation of the national flag to Lagbaja’s next of kin, a symbolic gesture recognising his service to the country.
The casket will then be lowered as a final act of honour.
The Last Rites
To conclude the rites, President Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and other dignitaries will lay wreaths to commemorate the life and legacy of the late army chief.
Lt. Gen. Lagbaja’s passing has drawn tributes from across the country.
Many have praised his exceptional leadership and contributions to the Nigerian Army during his tenure as Chief of Army Staff.
