Lagos Lawmakers’ Apology To Tinubu: What Nigerians Are Not Seeing

The case of Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, who was recently impeached seems to be taking a new twist.

Indeed, we had all hailed members of the Lagos State Assembly when news of Obasa’s impeachment came public. Well, jokes’ on all of us because things are about to go… well, the usual way.

Relax, this article you are about to read promises to connect some dots, many of which you may have forgotten.

Lagos Lawmakers Apologise To President Tinubu Over Removal Of EX-Speaker Obasa

Let’s take a little walk down memory lane, way back to the 2023 presidential election days.

Remember when Peter Obi won Lagos in that election? Everyone thought that Tinubu, who has often been said to be the owner of Lagos, had lost a marginal level of his hold on the state.

Well, it was not until the final results were announced that many Nigerians began to see beyond their noses.

Now, back to Obasa’s case.

When Obasa was removed, many people had wondered if Tinubu was indeed aware of the move. Well, obviously, a lot has been going on behind the curtain.

Obasa is a close ally of Tinubu hence the confusion that trailed this development.

But not this time, reports that the president ignored the embattled speaker when he called over the impeachment flooded the internet.

To many, Obasa was doomed, but not until today.

The Apology

Imagine the look on the faces of Nigerians when they heard that the same lawmakers who removed Obasa had tendered an apology over the move, with preparation for his possible return.

“This country is finished,” many whispered.

It happened on Monday.

That was the day the lawmaker apologised to the president.

The apology followed a directive given by the leadership of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) of the Lagos All Progressives Congress (APC) during an emergency meeting with the lawmakers at the Lagos House, Marina.
GAC is the highest decision-making body of the Lagos APC.

The meeting also had in attendance Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat.

Meanwhile, a source at the meeting disclosed that Tinubu wasn’t pleased with the impeachment move hence his insistence that it be upturned.

Some members of the GAC also accused its leadership of not carrying them along before Obasa’s removal, hence they supported the President’s directive for his reinstatement.

That is how everything changed within a twinkle of an eye.

The Twist

The same lawmakers, the same people that insisted that Obasa must go, in fact, they even faced the DSS over the issue insisting that the impeachment was final.

They told the DSS to their face that the impeachment was done in full compliance with the law.

The lawmakers made the declaration in a statement on Thursday signed by Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode on behalf of the House after their appearance at the Lagos Command of the Department of State Services (DSS).

What changed?

Maybe it is now clear who really owns Lagos. Or perhaps, we should see what the coming days would bring before we draw this conclusion.

For now, we all know what to expect, a possible return of Obasa.

If our prediction turns out be correct as usual, please ensure to come back and give us our flowers.
