If you are a landlord or property owner in Kogi State, then the state government has a message for you.
Beware, and be warned, renting or letting your property to internet fraud, commonly known as Yahoo Boys, within Kogi State may land you in serious trouble.
You see, the state government under the leadership of Governor Ododo has vowed to take decisive action against property owners who accommodate these Yahoo Boys.
This warning was issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abanika Taiye, during a press briefing in Lokoja.
According to Taiye, the government has been working round the clock to curb criminal activities in the state.
But guess what?
Taiye says the complicity of some landlords who are more interested in the money they receive has become a major challenge to the government.
The Blueprint
His words: “The Kogi State Government is creating awareness by bringing all the relevant stakeholders on board in the building sector for a robust dialogue in which we will come out with a blueprint that will serve as a guideline for the provision of houses for our people.
“Policy and law is very important in any organisation or ministry.
When it is made and strictly adhered to, the government will be able to check the excesses of property owners or landlords in the State.”

For those thinking that the Kogi Government may be blabbing as usual, after all “naso them de talk”.
Taiye says that the government is working on a new policy, and it is before the House of Assembly as we speak.
The proposed bill aims to regulate property ownership and rental practices, ensuring landlords are held accountable for the tenants they accommodate.
The ministry, he added, has already put mechanisms in place to curb exploitation and ensure compliance among property owners, aiming to create a safer and more organised urban environment for residents.
