Harry Kane’s success has “slightly surprised” one former team-mate, with there an area of his game that he has not “shown enough” of.
The England international has become a record-breaking goal-scorer for club and country, with all-time records held at Tottenham and with the Three Lions.
Kane is now chasing down elusive major silverware at Bayern Munich, with remarkable individual standards being maintained.
William Troost-Ekong once worked with Kane in Spurs’ academy system and believes the 31-year-old could have even more goals to his name if he was trusted with greater responsibility on set-pieces.
Passion
Troost-Ekong told talkSPORT: “He had a great work rate, he was someone who was also very passionate about working on his finishing.
“Free kicks, I don’t think he’s shown enough of that but he was a fantastic free-kick taker.
“At that time we had one of the best academy coaches, John McDermott, who was the head of the academy, I think now he’s the technical director at the FA. Alex Singleford was our under-18s manager, Chris Ramsay was the under-16s manager.
“So everything was in place for him [Kane] to learn a lot.
“He [Kane] just took his opportunity with both hands.
“I played against him once or twice, once for Nigeria against England at Wembley, it was amazing and once with Watford against Spurs.”
However, Kane has gone on to become a modern-day legend, with the fearsome frontman able to maximise his talent.
Troost-Ekong added on seeing a humble character scale such heights: “I’m slightly surprised [at his career], but I know how hard he worked for it.”
