Just In: Bomb blast kills top government official

A senior member of Afghanistan’s provincial council was killed by an improvised explosive device, while another was wounded, government spokesman, Arif Aber has said.

The bomb went off in the capital of Afghanistan’s central Ghor province, hours after a similar attack killed the deputy governor of Kabul and his secretary.

Aber said Abdul Rahman Atshan was, until his death, the deputy head of the provincial council and gave the name of the wounded council member as Abdul Rahim Rezazada.

Sources said that the bomb hit the car carrying the two officials at around 1.00 p.m. local time (8:30 GMT).
