Nigerian rapper and singer, Ice Prince, has been engaging with Nigerians as everyone prepares for Christmas and 2025.
His real name is Panshak Zamani and he has clarified his groundbreaking achievement at the BET Awards.
Also, he asserted that he was the first African artist to receive the accolade on stage.
Also, this revelation challenges the popular belief that Davido was the pioneer in this regard.
Ice Prince won the Best International Act: Africa award in 2013.
However, it was a momentous occasion, as it marked the first time an African artist accepted the award on the main stage rather than backstage.
Also, this is a practice that had previously been criticised for sidelining African acts.
Speaking during an episode of the Listening podcast, Ice Prince remarked: “I am the first African artiste to go on a BET stage and receive an award solo. When you talk about it, you give that credit to Davido”.
Although Davido, who won the same award in 2018, is often remembered for his impassioned acceptance speech advocating for stronger collaborations between African and American artists.
However, Ice Prince’s 2013 win was a trailblasing moment for African representation in global music recognition.
