Nigerian music icon Tiwa Savage has finally opened up about her divorce from her ex-husband, Tunji Balogun, popularly known as TeeBillz.
The couple’s separation, which TeeBillz announced publicly in 2018 via social media, left many fans in shock.
It sparked widespread speculation about the reasons behind their split.
In a recent interview on The Receipts Podcast, Tiwa Savage revealed her side of the story. She accused TeeBillz of being responsible for the divorce and the public announcement that followed.
According to her, the separation came at a particularly vulnerable time in her life, as she was still grappling with postpartum challenges after the birth of their son, Jamil.
“The way our situation happened, he announced it online. I did not break up with him, but I was the one being attacked,” she said.
Tiwa expressed her heartbreak over the way the public reaction unfairly blamed her for the failed marriage.
“It was very heartbreaking how the public blamed me,” she continued. “Ever since then, I told myself, ‘I won’t ever talk about the situation.’ It was an eye-opener for me. It made me depressed and angry for so long.”
The emotional toll of the experience, combined with the public scrutiny.
However, this led Tiwa to redefine herself and her image.
Also, she explained that the pain and frustration from the divorce pushed her to embrace a bold and unapologetic persona.
