Herbert Wigwe's father denies claims of family Conflict Over His Late Son's Estate

In Nigerian movies, one often sees issues and struggles around who takes control of the possessions of a departed person.

Wigwe’s family appears to be at that point months after the demise of Herbert Wigwe of Access Bank.

Pastor Shyngle Wigwe is the father of the late Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings, Herbert Wigwe.

He says claims that there is a dispute over his late son’s estate are not true.

Distribution Of Estate Dispute

A trending online publication, suggests that Wigwe’s parents has filed a caveat at the Probate Registry.

This action is aimed at challenging the distribution of Herbert’s estate as listed in his will.

The report stated that the caveat was filed under Pastor Shyngle’s direction and supported by an affidavit from Christian Chukwuka Wigwe, who claims to be Herbert’s cousin.

This legal move intended to change the directives set by Herbert regarding the administration of his estate.

Additionally, the report alleged that Pastor Shyngle requested 20 per cent of Herbert’s estate for himself and other family members.

This claim contradicts Herbert Wigwe’s will, which specifies that his wealth should be distributed solely among his children.

The will had been lodged at the Ikeja Probate Court prior to Herbert’s untimely passing.

In response, Pastor Shyngle issued a statement, signed by Emeka Wigwe on behalf of the family, refuting these claims.

He emphasised that he never requested 20 per cent of Herbert Wigwe’s estate.

False And Misleading

The statement read: “We, the family of Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, wish to address a recent article titled ‘Family Dispute Erupts Over Estate of Late Banking Executive Herbert Wigwe,’ published on October 13, 2024.

“This article has unfortunately spread widely across social and national media.

“While we recognise the role of the press in sharing news, it is vital that such reports are based on truth and accuracy.”

To clarify further, Pastor Shyngle stated that “at no point has Pastor Shyngle Wigwe requested 20 per cent of the estate of the late Herbert Wigwe.

“Neither has there been any such request by other family members.

“A simple search by your reporters would have revealed this truth”.

Pastor Shyngle urged the publication to correct the inaccuracies in their report and to exercise greater diligence in fact-checking future stories.

“During this painful time of grief, our family remains united, focusing on healing and growing stronger together.

“We have no intention of engaging in a public defense because there are no sides to take. The only truth is that we are navigating this immense loss and will continue to do so with dignity,” he added.

Herbert’s Legacy

Also, he highlighted Herbert’s legacy, stating that “Herbert Wigwe’s legacy as a visionary banker and entrepreneur is what should be remembered.

“He transformed Access Bank into a national leader and devoted himself to empowering others through initiatives like The HOW Foundation, which focused on education and healthcare.

“These are the values that define his life and should be the focus, rather than unfounded speculation.”
