A return to Old Trafford has not been formally ruled out, but the expectation is that his future lies outside of Manchester.

A productive spell in La Liga has brought the 22-year-old forward to the attention of leading sides across Europe, with speculation suggesting that he is registering on recruitment radars at Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Borussia Dortmund.

Getafe, though, have not given up hope of putting an extended deal in place and remain optimistic regarding their chances of retaining a player that has been billed as “The King” at Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

Club president Angel Torres has told Movistar when asked for an update on Greenwood:

Greenwood’s contract at United includes the option for a 12-month extension through to 2026.

If that were to be triggered, then the Red Devils would be in a position to sanction another loan – potentially with Getafe – before mulling over more permanent options in future windows.
