Germany has handed returned 20 Benin Bronzes from its museums to Nigeria joining other European countries who are returning African artifacts to them.
German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock announced this on Tuesday.
Germany had agreed to start returning Benin Bronzes held in its museums last year.
Germany signed a declaration with Nigeria to release all 1,130 Benin Bronzes in its public museums.

Foreign minister Geoffrey Onyeama and Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed were present at the handover including Germany’s minister for culture and media Claudia Roth.
“Today we are taking a step that was long overdue: We are returning 20 Benin bronzes from German museums to where they belong, to their homeland,” Baerbock told reporters in Abuja.
Lai Mohammed used to opportunity to urge British Museums to return over 900 Benin Bronzes it has.
British museums reportedly holds the largest collection of Benin Bronzes.
