FG Sympathises With South Korea As 179 Die In Plane Crash

The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of South Korea following the tragic crash of Jeju Air Flight 2216, which occurred on Sunday, December 29, 2024.

The devastating incident took place as the Boeing 737-800 aircraft, returning from Bangkok, Thailand.

The aircraft attempted to land at Muan International Airport in southern South Korea.

Also, the aircraft skidded off the runway and collided with a wall, triggering a catastrophic explosion.

The crash resulted in the loss of 179 lives out of the 181 passengers and crew on board.

However, the crash leaves only two survivors in critical condition.

This tragedy has been described as one of the deadliest aviation accidents in South Korea’s history.

In a statement issued in Abuja by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Nigerian government expressed profound sympathy and solidarity with South Korea during this period of grief.

Also, the statement conveyed Nigeria’s support for the bereaved families and the South Korean people as they navigate this painful chapter.

The Federal Republic of Nigeria wishes to express her sincere condolences to the Government and People of the Republic of Korea for the unfortunate crash of Jeju Air Flight 2216 that occurred on Sunday, December 29, 2024.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria sympathises deeply with the Government of South Korea and the families of the victims of this deadly plane crash,” the statement read.
